LabRats EPK
Bio
LabRats is a dynamic quartet based in Sacramento composed of multi instrumentalists, composers, and producers.
The band came together out of necessity in order to unify and bridge gaps between musicians of all types. LabRats challenges their listener’s perception of “jazz,” as they embody a wide range of styles and influences ranging from J Dilla to Sun Ra. At a live show, the band exudes a wonderful on-stage charm as they hypnotize the audience with colorful synth-scapes, syncopated drums, and fierce improvisation.
Formed during the pandemic in 2021, the band has proven itself to be an integral part of their hometown music scene. They curated and host the city’s hippest jam session “Sunday Sessions” at local venue The Torch Club, which serves as a well known hub for musical creatives to create, perform, and network. Sunday Sessions has given a stage to many of Sacramento’s up and coming vocalists, rappers, and instrumentalists as well as created a buzz that can be felt throughout Sacramento’s music scene.
LabRats tour often and perform with bands throughout the pacific northwest. In just under two years, the band has been recognized by NPR, the Grammy Awards for three different categories, and has participated in major music festivals in Sacramento and San Jose. The band has also opened for amazing acts such as Kamasi Washington, Talib Kweli, Tower Of Power, GZA (of Wu Tang Clan), and more and sold out several headlining shows.
LabRats has released “Year of the Rat” and “Standard Practice. Vol. 1” which were both independently produced, recorded, performed, and paid for entirely by the band. They are currently recording their third album, with hopes to release it later this year.
